Of Start-ups & Structures

John Temple, former editor, president and publisher of the Rocky Mountain News (RIP Feb. 27, 2009), is blogging from Honolulu where he’s leading a Web-based news start-up called Peer News,

Backed by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar, the news service is an attempt to take a fresh approach to serving the information needs of a community. As Temple describes it in his first post, “At Peer News, this year, we are taking something with tradition – journalism – and trying to make it new.”

In his second post, Temple describes the “building blocks” of the Honolulu-based news service as “structural topic pages.”

For important background on this approach to new media journalism, See Conover on Informatics and “thoughtful structures.”
